This bill, effective October 1, 2026, requires municipalities, which are defined as towns, cities, or boroughs, to publish legal notices on their official Internet websites in addition to any existing requirements for publication in a daily or weekly newspaper. This means that any law, special act, charter, ordinance, or regulation that mandates the publication of a legal notice in a newspaper will now also necessitate its posting online. Municipal clerks will be responsible for keeping a physical copy of each online notice for one year after its publication, and the bill clarifies that this change does not alter the legally required timeframe for providing such notice, nor does it affect the requirement that newspapers used for publication must have a substantial circulation within the municipality where at least one party involved resides.
