AN ACT To amend an Act to create a board of elections and registration for Brooks County, approved April 20, 2011 (Ga. AI Summary

This bill amends an existing law from 2011 that created a board of elections and registration for Brooks County, Georgia, by expanding the board from its current size to five members, with three members required to be present for official business (a quorum). Starting January 1, 2027, each member of the Brooks County Board of Commissioners will appoint one member to the elections board, and these appointments will need majority approval from the Board of Commissioners. The bill also clarifies that if a board member leaves their position, the commissioners will appoint a replacement using the same appointment process for the remainder of the term. Furthermore, the bill establishes that the elections supervisor, who oversees the board's operations, and any employees hired by the supervisor, will be subject to hiring, firing, and direction by the board of elections, although they will still be considered county employees for administrative purposes like pay and benefits.
