This bill exempts certain real property acquired by a local agency on or after January 1, 2029, for the purpose of creating an economic opportunity from the usual requirements for disposing of surplus land. Normally, local agencies must notify the public about available surplus land before selling or leasing it. However, under this bill, if a local agency adopts a resolution before acquiring the property that outlines the reasons for the acquisition, planned improvements, and future use, and then disposes of the property to a public or private entity consistent with those plans, those standard surplus land disposal requirements will not apply. This aims to streamline the process for economic development projects.
