Specifically, it adds to the list of situations that can be considered good cause for a continuance cases where a minor is detained as a material witness or is the victim of the alleged offense, and cases where the victim is 65 years of age or older at the time of the alleged offense or is a dependent adult, meaning an adult who is unable to provide for their own care or protection and is harmed or threatened with harm. These additions aim to provide more flexibility in granting continuances to protect vulnerable individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
