This bill amends the Alabama Student Grant Program to include an independent postsecondary online institution located in Orange Beach, Alabama, as an approved institution for which students can receive grants. The Alabama Student Grant Program, administered by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE), provides financial aid to eligible Alabama residents pursuing higher education. An "approved institution" is defined as a postsecondary institution that meets certain accreditation and operational standards, and this bill adds a specific online institution in Orange Beach that is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to this list. The bill also makes minor technical changes to the definitions within the program, such as clarifying that "ALABAMA RESIDENT" refers to an individual rather than a person and that ACHE shall adopt rules instead of promulgating regulations. The changes will take effect on October 1, 2026.
