This bill aims to accelerate the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at multifamily housing properties by establishing new requirements for electrical corporations, which are companies that provide electricity. Specifically, it directs the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), a regulatory body, to set targets for each electrical corporation to install EV charging stations at these properties by March 1, 2027, with the goal of at least tripling the existing number of such stations by December 31, 2037. The bill also mandates that the PUC ensure these targets reduce costs for all electricity customers, requires electrical corporations to report their progress annually and provide maps identifying high-usage multifamily properties, and allows the PUC to decide whether electrical corporations should cover the costs of installing and maintaining these charging stations, including those on the customer's side of the meter, as operational expenses rather than capital investments, to the extent not covered by other funding sources.
