This bill, known as the Youth Caregiver Support and Career Pathway Act, aims to recognize and support young individuals who provide care for family members with ongoing health problems, chronic illnesses, or disabilities. It mandates that the State Department of Education consider adding content about youth caregivers to the Personal Care and Services career pathway within the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards. By July 1, 2028, the department will provide guidance for implementing this pathway, which will include a focus on in-home caregiving skills for youth supporting household family members and allow these youth caregivers to earn high school credits through work experience education programs for the care they provide.
