This bill requires the California State University (CSU) and community college districts to grant priority registration for enrollment to students using federal GI Bill benefits, which are educational benefits provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to eligible service members, veterans, and their families, and also to students who receive a fee waiver under existing law for dependents of veterans with service-connected disabilities, those killed in service, or who died from a service-connected disability, or for Medal of Honor recipients and their children under certain conditions. The University of California (UC) is requested to implement the same priority registration for these student groups on its campuses. This change is set to take effect starting with the 2028-29 academic year, and if the Commission on State Mandates determines that this bill imposes costs on local agencies or school districts, the state will provide reimbursement for those costs.
