This bill modifies existing Louisiana law regarding employment certificates for minors, which are documents required for young people to legally work. Instead of schools or school boards issuing and approving these certificates, the state's Secretary of Labor will now prescribe and provide the official employment certificate form, which will be available online or at local field offices. This new form will require specific information, including the minor's signature and date, a statement of parental or guardian consent with their signature and date, details about the proofs of age the minor will submit to the employer, and the name of the prospective employer. The bill also clarifies that employment certificates are valid only for the employer listed on the form and must be kept by the employer for fourteen days after the minor's employment ends. The Secretary of Labor retains the authority to revoke a certificate if it was improperly issued or if the minor is employed illegally, and in such cases, the employer and minor will be notified. The bill also repeals certain sections of existing law related to the issuance and requirements of these certificates and sets an effective date of August 2, 2026.
