This bill establishes a Compensation Commission to review and set salaries and other compensation for elected officials in Louisiana, with its work to be completed by January 15, 2037. The commission will be an independent office within the legislative auditor's office and will consist of fifteen members appointed by various state entities, including the governor, the supreme court, legislative leaders, and associations representing different elected officials, with all nominees coming from a list provided by the presidents of accredited nonprofit private institutions of higher education. Commission members will not be compensated but will be reimbursed for expenses, and their duties include conducting a comprehensive evaluation of compensation for statewide elected officials, judges, district attorneys, sheriffs, coroners, clerks of court, tax assessors, and legislators, with their recommendations to be published and take effect at the start of the subsequent term of office, superseding any conflicting laws.
