This bill adds a new section to Idaho law that allows the state board of land commissioners to issue "deficiency warrants," which are essentially orders for payment from the general fund, to cover the costs of providing fire resources for activities that are not directly related to suppressing wildfires, but are still mobilized through established fire and emergency management systems. This means that if fire departments or other entities are called upon to provide resources for non-wildland fire suppression efforts, such as responding to hazardous material incidents or other emergencies, the state can use these deficiency warrants to reimburse them for those costs. The bill also declares an emergency and sets an effective date of July 1, 2026.
