This bill amends Civil Code Article 1543 to establish specific rules for donating motor vehicles, distinguishing them from other movable property. Previously, the donation of a movable item (a corporeal movable) could be made simply by handing it over to the recipient without any further legal formality. However, this bill now creates a new section, designated as "B," which restricts who can receive a donated motor vehicle. Under the new provisions, a motor vehicle can only be donated to ascendants (parents, grandparents), descendants (children, grandchildren), or collaterals (siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins) of the donor, or to charitable organizations, or to post-secondary institutions of higher education. The existing rule for donating other movable items, allowing for simple delivery, remains in place, but is now explicitly excluded from applying to motor vehicles.
