This bill appropriates $6,500,000 from the general fund to the commissioner of education for the "Faith's Law 'Save a Life' Safety Program" to purchase and install up to 1,400 "smart monitored public access safety cabinets" on school grounds, with each cabinet costing $4,500 and including an automated external defibrillator (AED) unit, a kit to stop bleeding, naloxone, and four years of monitoring and maintenance. These cabinets, which are designed to be always publicly accessible and comply with existing Minnesota law regarding public access AEDs, will be administered by the Minnesota State High School League in conjunction with the Department of Education, with grant recipients responsible for their operation and maintenance for four years without additional state or local funding, and must ensure their reliability in various weather conditions. The Minnesota State High School League will also receive $50,000 annually for administrative costs and is tasked with seeking additional funding and reporting on the grant program by October 1, 2027.
