This bill establishes the interagency council on kinship care, directing the office of the aging to create this council to investigate, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding the unique challenges faced by kinship caregivers, who are relatives caring for children. The council will be comprised of representatives from various state agencies, including those dealing with children and family services, health, temporary and disability services, courts, mental health, education, and addiction services, as well as relevant non-profit groups. While council members will not be paid, they will be reimbursed for necessary expenses, and the council can hire staff. The council is empowered to conduct studies and hold hearings, and by December 1, 2028, it must submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislative changes, to the governor and legislative leaders, and make this report publicly available online.
