This bill requires that when a person is denied a firearm because they are prohibited from possessing one under federal law (specifically, 18 U.S.C. sec. 922(g) or (n), which lists various reasons someone cannot legally own a gun, such as a felony conviction or domestic violence history), this denial information, including the reason for the denial, must be reported not only to the national instant criminal background check system but also to local law enforcement and the local prosecutor in the area where the person attempted to buy the firearm. Furthermore, local law enforcement agencies are mandated to investigate these denials within five business days of receiving the report.
