This bill expands the ability of chief administrative officers of postsecondary educational institutions, or their designees, to seek restraining orders. Previously, these officials could only seek orders on behalf of students who experienced unlawful violence or credible threats of violence at the school. Now, they can also seek orders on behalf of the educational institution itself if it is the target of such violence or threats. Additionally, the bill broadens the definition of "course of conduct" for which a restraining order can be sought to include making telephone calls to the institution or sending correspondence to the chief administrative officer, thereby offering greater protection to educational institutions against harassment and threats.
