This bill would allow a local agency, which is a city or county government, to contract with a joint powers authority, a type of entity formed by two or more public agencies to jointly exercise powers, to help improve and maintain natural habitat. Currently, local agencies can already perform these functions themselves or contract with the state, another local agency, or a special district. The bill also makes a technical correction by changing the reference from the "Department of Fish and Game" to the "Department of Fish and Wildlife."
