This bill makes technical, nonsubstantive changes to existing law regarding health care decisions for residents in skilled nursing facilities and intermediate care facilities who lack the capacity to provide informed consent. The existing law establishes a program to appoint patient representatives to protect the rights of these residents when a physician determines they cannot make their own medical decisions. The bill clarifies definitions and ensures that notices are provided to the Long-Term Care Patient Representative Program, or the local long-term care ombudsman if that program is not operational, and makes minor adjustments to the language regarding the ombudsman.
