This bill makes technical, nonsubstantive changes to existing law regarding juvenile dependency proceedings, specifically concerning the authority of social workers to undertake programs of supervision for children who may be within the jurisdiction of the juvenile court. The juvenile court can declare a child a dependent if they have suffered or are at risk of serious physical harm, or if parents fail to provide basic necessities. Currently, if a social worker, after an investigation, believes a child is or will soon be within the court's jurisdiction, they can, with parental consent, start a supervision program instead of filing a petition or after dismissing one. This bill simply updates the language in this provision to be more gender-neutral and to replace "probably" with "likely" to reflect minor stylistic adjustments without altering the core meaning or legal effect of the existing law.
