This bill requires the West Virginia Board of Education to create a rule that establishes common graduation requirements for all public school students, alongside specific requirements for four different graduation pathways: Academic (College-Preparatory), Workforce, Career and Technical Education and Skilled Trades, and Military. The rule must ensure that no pathway is considered remedial or less rigorous than another and will strengthen Personalized Education Plans to help students choose a pathway by ninth grade. All students will need to complete core credits in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education and Health, and Financial Literacy, with additional requirements varying by the chosen pathway. The Academic Pathway will focus on advanced coursework and college readiness, the Workforce Pathway on career-focused learning and industry credentials, the Career and Technical Education and Skilled Trades Pathway on specific vocational programs and certifications, and the Military Pathway on military exploration, leadership, and physical preparation.
