This bill removes a restriction that prevented school personnel from being reassigned after the second school month of the year, but only in specific situations. Previously, if a school had fewer students than expected in a certain grade or program, leading to a surplus of teachers or support staff (referred to as "school personnel"), they could only be reassigned to another school or within their current school if needed to meet student-to-teacher ratios or class size standards, and this reassignment had to happen before the end of the second school month. This bill allows for such reassignments to occur at any time during the school year if the surplus is due to unforeseen enrollment changes, provided the employee is given notice and a chance to object to the county board before a vote, and the least senior qualified personnel are reassigned without affecting their contract, pay, or benefits.
