This joint resolution commends the Virginia Black Restaurant Experience (VBRE) on its 10th anniversary, recognizing its significant contributions to the Commonwealth of Virginia. Launched in 2016, the VBRE is an annual celebration that uplifts Black-owned restaurants, chefs, and food service professionals, growing from 19 participants to over 60 businesses including restaurants, food trucks, caterers, and bakers. The initiative has generated millions of dollars in economic activity for the Richmond region and beyond, reinvesting in small businesses, local suppliers, and hospitality workers, while also amplifying the region as a culinary destination and positioning Virginia as a leader in tourism and food innovation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the VBRE provided crucial support to struggling restaurants by connecting them to resources, offering direct assistance, and advocating for funding. Furthermore, it has partnered with various institutions to address disparities in capital access, workforce development, and business infrastructure, strengthening pathways for Black hospitality entrepreneurs. The VBRE has become a major cultural and economic event, attracting thousands of visitors and inspiring similar initiatives, demonstrating the vital role of diverse culinary ecosystems in regional vitality. The resolution directs the Clerk of the Senate to present a copy of this commendation to representatives of the VBRE, acknowledging its extraordinary economic and cultural impact.
