This bill authorizes the Municipal Court of the Town of Mount Airy to charge and collect a technology fee, which will be added as a surcharge to criminal and quasi-criminal fines. This fee, set by the court's judge and not exceeding $10.00, is exclusively for technological needs of the court, such as purchasing, leasing, maintaining, and installing computer hardware and software, as well as equipment for imaging, scanning, facsimile, communications, projections, and printing. Funds collected will be kept in a separate account managed by the town's chief financial officer and the clerk of court, and can only be spent on authorized purposes as directed by the town manager, including reimbursing the town's information technology department for services provided to the court.
