This bill requires insurance providers, referred to as "health carriers" or "health benefit plans" which are defined in existing Missouri law as entities offering health insurance, to cover annual kidney function screening services for individuals in Missouri starting August 28, 2026. These screenings are intended to detect early signs of chronic kidney disease and will include tests like glomerular filtration rate testing, basic metabolic panel testing, and urine tests for albumin and creatinine levels. However, this requirement does not apply to certain supplemental insurance policies, such as those for life care contracts, accident-only coverage, specific diseases, fixed daily hospital benefits, Medicare supplements, long-term care, or short-term major medical policies lasting six months or less.
