This bill establishes a high school diploma for armed forces veterans in Minnesota, allowing the commissioner of education to award a standard high school diploma to qualifying veterans who did not complete high school graduation requirements, based on knowledge and experience gained during their service. To be eligible, a veteran must have served in the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, or left a school before graduating to serve on active duty in the U.S. armed forces, and must be a current resident of Minnesota, have previously attended a Minnesota high school, or have been a Minnesota resident at the time of death, with an honorable discharge from the armed forces verified by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans or their families can apply for this diploma, and the Departments of Education and Veterans Affairs will collaborate to assist with the application process.
