This bill, effective July 1, 2026, amends the law concerning the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund, which is a dedicated fund established to receive payments from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe and the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut based on agreements between the tribes and the state. The bill clarifies that funds received from both tribes will be deposited into the General Fund. For the fiscal years from 2015 through 2027, a specific amount, equivalent to the appropriation for "Grants to Towns," will be transferred from these tribal payments to the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund and distributed to towns as outlined in section 3-55j. Starting with the fiscal year ending June 30, 2028, and for each year thereafter, a fixed amount of $152,378,676 will be transferred from the General Fund to the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund for distribution to towns. The bill also specifies that these transfers from the General Fund to the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund cannot be reduced unless the Governor certifies an emergency to the General Assembly.
