This bill mandates that by the 2028-2029 school year, local school boards must develop and maintain a district plan to promote advanced mathematics coursework, which will automatically enroll eighth-grade students into Algebra I or higher courses for high school credit if they meet certain criteria, such as scoring proficient or higher on state math assessments or ranking in the top 30% on a universal math screener, with provisions for students who have already earned high school math credit and requiring parental consent to opt out, while also allowing districts to implement these plans earlier and requiring superintendents to submit an implementation plan to their local school boards by August 1, 2027. Additionally, until the 2036-2037 school year, the Kentucky Department of Education will report annually to the Legislative Research Commission on the number, demographics, and geography of eighth-grade students enrolled in or eligible for these advanced math courses, as well as those excluded, to track the program's progress and impact.
