This bill modifies Louisiana's insurance fraud laws by clarifying the roles of the office of insurance fraud and other law enforcement agencies, allowing the office to assist in investigations with consent, and specifying that criminal provisions related to insurance fraud are to be handled by appropriate law enforcement and prosecutorial bodies unless otherwise stated. It also defines "business of insurance" to include actions related to the sale, advertisement, or solicitation of insurance policies, as well as assisting in claim resolutions, while excluding attorneys providing legal services and healthcare providers assisting patients with prior authorizations or appeals. Furthermore, the bill expands the commissioner's authority to address unfair trade practices by persons not licensed by the department, allowing for cease and desist orders, fines, and other actions, and establishes appeal procedures for those aggrieved by the commissioner's actions.
