This resolution commends We Off The Couch, a Richmond-based nonprofit organization founded in 2019 to improve health equity through running and fitness programs. Inspired by its founder's personal health transformation, the Black-led organization offers inclusive programs for all ages, removing barriers to physical and mental well-being, and has grown to over 1,200 members who participate in weekly runs with a motto of "all paces are welcome." We Off The Couch serves as a vital community anchor, fostering unity across diverse backgrounds, and has been a source of support, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic and social unrest. The organization also runs Kids Off The Couch, an afterschool program at Fairfield Court Elementary School, and actively addresses systemic health disparities in underserved neighborhoods by promoting access to fitness, wellness education, and safe community spaces. Having received funding from the Richmond Health Equity Fund and The Robins Foundation, and partnered with local events like the Run Richmond 16.19 race, We Off The Couch is recognized for its impactful work in building a healthier and more connected Richmond community.
