This bill allows for the consolidation of election precincts, which are the geographic areas where voters cast their ballots, for certain local elections that are not statewide or federal elections. This consolidation can be done by election commissioners in counties, cities, wards, townships, or villages if those areas are already divided into multiple precincts. The bill raises the maximum number of active registered electors allowed in a consolidated precinct from 5,000 to 15,000 and requires that any consolidation must occur at least 60 days before an election. If the polling places for the precincts being combined are not in the same building, election officials must notify affected voters by mail or another method to ensure they receive actual notice of the consolidated polling place location and also post a notice at each original precinct's polling place. The bill also clarifies that consolidated precincts must be treated as a whole and cannot be divided during the consolidation process.
