This bill requires individuals registered as sex offenders to pay an annual registration fee, with an initial fee of one thousand dollars and subsequent annual fees of one hundred fifty dollars, to the Department of Kentucky State Police, with these funds going into a newly established "sex offender registry fund" administered by the department to maintain the sex offender registry. Failure to pay this fee will not prevent a registrant from completing their registration or updating their information, but knowingly violating the payment requirement is considered a violation punishable by a fine of up to five hundred dollars, with these fines deposited into the general fund. Importantly, any money remaining in the sex offender registry fund at the end of a fiscal year will not be lost but will be carried over to the next year.
