This bill, effective January 1, 2027, increases and reallocates the fees collected for motor vehicle inspections, including those for motorcycles. Specifically, the fee for motorcycle and electric vehicle inspections will rise from eleven dollars to fifteen dollars. More significantly, the bill establishes a new fee structure for motor vehicle emissions inspections, increasing the total fee from fifty-five dollars to seventy-five dollars. Of this new seventy-five dollar fee, ten dollars will be directly allocated to the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA), a public transportation agency, with the remainder distributed to inspection station owners, the program manager, and the Rhode Island highway maintenance account.
