This resolution establishes the Senate Study Committee on a Museum of African American History and Culture of Georgia to explore the rich heritage of African Americans in the state, recognizing its importance for documentation, preservation, and promotion. The committee, comprised of five Senate members appointed by the President of the Senate, including the Majority Leader, Minority Leader, and the chairperson of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, will study the conditions, needs, issues, and problems related to African American history and culture in Georgia. Its duties include identifying and preserving historical materials and artifacts, and recommending actions or legislation to foster better racial understanding and integrate this history into mainstream life and education. The committee members will receive allowances for their service, funded by the Senate's appropriations, and are authorized to meet as needed. The committee is tasked with submitting a report of its findings and recommendations, if any, to the Secretary of the Senate by December 1, 2026, at which point it will be abolished.
