The committee, composed of Senate leadership, other senators, and appointed experts, will study problems such as PBMs steering patients to their affiliated pharmacies, marking up drug costs, and manipulating reimbursement rates, which have been criticized for harming patients and independent pharmacies, leading to concerns about access to medications, particularly in rural areas. The committee is tasked with recommending necessary actions or legislation to address these issues and will be abolished on December 1, 2026, after which it will report its findings and recommendations.
