Furthermore, it expands the definition of a "roof garden, cabaret or other similar place" to include establishments that provide live, scripted or unscripted stand-up comedy or similar comedic performances on a designated stage, in conjunction with selling food or merchandise, and impose a separate admission charge for these performances, making them subject to certain tax provisions. This change aims to provide a sales tax exemption for comedy performances, similar to exemptions already in place for other live arts.
