Specifically, it amends statutes related to criminal trespass in the first, second, and third degrees, as well as simple trespass, by inserting language that covers these school-related locations. For instance, criminal trespass in the first degree now includes entering or remaining on school grounds or in school buildings after being ordered to leave by an authorized official, while criminal trespass in the second degree now covers entering or remaining in a school building or on school grounds without permission. Similarly, criminal trespass in the third degree and simple trespass are updated to encompass these school areas. These changes, which will take effect on October 1, 2026, aim to provide clearer legal definitions and protections for school environments.
