This bill aims to enhance the security of public officials and employees by amending existing laws. Firstly, it modifies the Freedom of Information Act to prevent public agencies from disclosing the residential addresses of a broader range of public officials and employees, including state-wide elected officers, legislators, judges, municipal leaders, and certain other public servants, from personnel, medical, or similar files, provided they request such confidentiality and provide a business address. Secondly, it allows candidate committees, which are groups that raise and spend money to elect a candidate, to use campaign funds for "personal security services," defined as services provided to a candidate, their family, or staff by individuals (other than on-duty law enforcement) for safety directly related to campaign activities. Finally, it establishes a "legislative safety account" to fund the safety and security of state legislators and their staff, with initial funding coming from specific national organization contributions and a matching appropriation from the General Fund for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027.
