AI Summary

This bill, starting in the 2026-27 school year, mandates that school districts pay student teachers, who are individuals enrolled in a college or university teacher preparation program and gaining practical experience in a school, at least $15 per hour for their work. To support this, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) will be responsible for reimbursing school districts for these student teacher wages. Specifically, each year on the third Monday in June, the DPI will provide financial aid to school boards equal to $15 multiplied by the total number of hours student teachers worked in that district during the previous school term, using funds from a newly created appropriation for student teacher compensation grants. The DPI is also granted the authority to create rules to implement and manage this program.
