This resolution establishes the Senate Rosenwald Schools Study Committee, comprised of five senators appointed by the President of the Senate, to investigate the history and impact of Rosenwald schools in Georgia. These schools, funded in the early 1900s through a partnership between Julius Rosenwald of Sears, Roebuck and Co. and educator Booker T. Washington, were built in poor, rural African American communities across the South with local contributions and matching funds from the Rosenwald Foundation. The program helped fund nearly 5,000 schools nationwide, including over 240 in Georgia, significantly impacting the education and economic well-being of African Americans, though their history is largely unknown. The committee will study the conditions, needs, issues, and problems related to these schools and recommend any necessary actions or legislation, with its members receiving standard legislative allowances, and the committee will be abolished on December 1, 2026, after submitting a report of its findings.
