This bill modifies the "Prosecuting Attorneys Coordinating Office Act of 1972" by redefining terms and restructuring the Prosecuting Attorneys Coordinating Council. It introduces "chief executive officer" and "department" (referring to the department of licensing and regulatory affairs) as new terms, while removing the definition of "executive secretary." The bill moves the office of prosecuting attorneys coordination from the department of the attorney general to be an autonomous entity within the department of licensing and regulatory affairs, with the department providing administrative support. The head of the office remains the prosecuting attorneys coordinating council, and the chief executive officer of the office is now appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the council. The composition of the council is also changed: it will now consist of five members, including the president of the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, and four prosecuting attorneys elected by the association based on county population, with a new category for counties with less than 50,000 individuals. The bill also clarifies that members must vacate their position if they are no longer a prosecuting attorney and that vacancies are filled in the same manner as original appointments.
