This concurrent resolution establishes the Optometric Practice Task Force, a group tasked with reviewing the current state of optometry in Kentucky due to significant advancements in eye care technology and expanded practice privileges, such as laser surgeries and injections. The task force will examine the scope of optometric practice, therapeutic advancements, licensure and education requirements, and the composition of the Kentucky Board of Optometric Examiners (KBOE), which oversees these practices. The task force will be composed of legislators, representatives from the KBOE, the Kentucky Optometric Association, the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure, eye care professional organizations, medical schools, and the Attorney General's office, with final membership subject to approval by the Legislative Research Commission. The task force is directed to meet monthly during the 2026 legislative interim and submit its findings and recommendations by October 31, 2026, though the Legislative Research Commission retains the authority to reassign these duties or adjust the study completion date.
