Bill Summary

Current law specifies educational goals and expectations for school boards in each of the following categories: academic skills and knowledge, vocational skills, citizenship, and personal development. To satisfy the personal development educational goals, each school board must provide an instructional program on personal development that incudes specific objectives, including providing pupils with awareness about drug abuse and prevention. Under this bill, the personal development instructional program must also provide pupils with awareness about fentanyl and the use of an opioid antagonist. For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.

AI Summary

This bill requires Wisconsin school districts to incorporate awareness about fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid, and the use of an opioid antagonist, which is a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, into their personal development educational goals. Currently, these goals include instruction on drug abuse and prevention, but this legislation expands that requirement to specifically include education on fentanyl and opioid antagonist use, beginning with instruction provided in the 2026-27 school year.
