This concurrent resolution honors the memory of Shipp Robbley Weems of Dickson, recognizing him as an exemplary public servant and professional who dedicated his life to improving the quality of life for others. The resolution highlights his early career as the youngest City Judge of record at age twenty-nine, his pioneering work in establishing the first public defenders program for the State of Tennessee in 1986, which led to the creation of the Public Defenders' Office, and his subsequent distinguished service as the 23rd Judicial District Public Defender and later as an Assistant Public Defender. He was widely known as "The People's Advocate" for his commitment to ensuring access to justice regardless of financial means. The resolution also acknowledges the establishment of the Weems-Rezapour Scholarship for Justice and Public Service in his honor and celebrates his devotion to family. Finally, it expresses the sympathy of the General Assembly to his family and directs that an appropriate copy of the resolution be prepared for presentation.
