This bill, relating to the charter of the Town of Stowe, proposes to approve an amendment that was already voted on and approved by the town's residents on March 3, 2026, to grant the Town the authority to implement a two percent local option tax. This tax would apply to sales of goods, hotel rooms, meals, and alcoholic beverages, and its collection and administration would be handled by the Department of Taxes. Importantly, for any local option tax collected that exceeds one percent, half of the excess revenue will be directed to the Local Option Municipal Transportation Special Fund, a fund established to support transportation projects, while the other half will go directly to the Town of Stowe. This new tax authorization will also replace any prior local option taxes that the Town may have previously adopted.
