This concurrent resolution congratulates and expresses appreciation to the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) for 175 years of service to the nation, recognizing its significant contributions to communities by responding to needs, connecting people, fostering support, building relationships, and creating a sense of belonging. The resolution commends the YMCA's staff and volunteers for their work in advancing the organization's mission to build healthy spirits, minds, and bodies for all, and specifically honors the YMCA's efforts to combat social isolation and loneliness by providing spaces that promote achievement, well-being, and connection, ultimately helping people build relationships and thrive. The YMCA, founded in the United States in 1851, has a long history of adapting to community needs, including providing safe housing, pioneering night schools and English as a second language classes, delivering the first group swim lessons, inventing basketball and Father's Day, establishing the Youth and Government program, leading humanitarian efforts during wartime, and serving as a leading provider of childcare, afterschool programs, and emergency childcare, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
