This bill formally approves an amendment to the City of Burlington's charter, which was previously approved by the city's voters, to establish a new Office of Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (REIB). This office will be led by a Director of REIB, a permanent position hired according to city human resources policies, who will report directly to the Mayor. The Director will oversee the REIB office, working under the direction of the City Council, and will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy to advance racial equity, social justice, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and antiracism throughout the city.
