This bill provides a defense from liability for vehicles belonging to the New York City Department of Sanitation when they are standing, stopped, or parked in violation of certain bus lane restrictions. Specifically, if a sanitation vehicle is ticketed for being in a bus lane under a bus rapid transit program or a demonstration program, the owner of the vehicle can use the fact that the operator was a sanitation employee performing authorized duties as a defense against the ticket. This applies to violations of specific rules within the New York City Rules, chapter four of title thirty-four, which govern bus lanes and bus rapid transit programs. The bill takes effect immediately.
