This resolution congratulates Mr. Justin Tate of Elkins, Arkansas, for being chosen as a "Guardian of the Flame" for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. The Law Enforcement Torch Run, founded in 1981, is the Special Olympics' largest grassroots fundraiser, and its "Final Leg" program involves law enforcement officers and Special Olympians carrying the "Flame of Hope" to the Opening Ceremonies. Mr. Tate, an accomplished Special Olympian, was selected for this honor due to his dedication to Special Olympics Arkansas and his physical ability to run up to five miles daily. He will begin his duties on May 30, 2026, running across the United States until the Games begin on June 20, 2026, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he will help light the cauldron, symbolizing the official start of the competition. The resolution also directs that a copy be presented to Mr. Tate.
