This resolution designates the week of April 26 through May 2, 2026, as "Conservation District Week" in Pennsylvania to recognize the vital work of conservation districts, which are local government entities established to manage natural resources. These districts, created in 1945 in response to the Dust Bowl to improve soil and water conservation, collaborate with landowners and local governments to protect land and water resources on both private and public lands. They also partner with various organizations and are guided by volunteer boards of directors who identify local conservation needs and develop strategic plans, with every county in Pennsylvania having a conservation district except for Philadelphia.
