This Ambassador will be responsible for working with various U.S. government agencies, consulting with U.S. private sector companies to ensure their perspectives are represented, and briefing Congress regularly on progress. Furthermore, the bill requires a report detailing efforts by China and Russia to influence international forums like the ITU to promote policies that could restrict digital freedom or advance their own technological interests, and it authorizes projects to promote U.S. global leadership in telecommunications infrastructure, prioritizing connectivity and the use of trusted vendors, especially in developing countries. Finally, the Secretary of State is tasked with submitting a strategy report outlining how the U.S. will promote and achieve dominance in 6G technology globally, including cooperation with allies and engagement with standard-setting bodies.
